Steel Homes Story
We're proud to have the opportunity to tell you about our people and our homes. We're folks just like you, who have worked hard to make our homes what they are today, and we are very proud of them. Heritage built its success in the steel industry by applying cost effective solutions to steel frame designs for all types of individual customer needs. We sold our first home in 1980. It was a simple two story A-frame.
We really didn't think a lot about it over the years when customers would order metal building frames and make a home out of them. Then hurricane Hugo hit the eastern seaboard, destroying thousands of homes which could not handle the wind load. We received numerous calls from folks asking us to build a high wind load steel home. Early on, we simply modified our commercial building designs into the shape of a house. We started selling these and soon had folks on the west coast wanting to know "if your house can take high winds, can it also take earthquakes?" We immediately put our engineers and design team to work and were able to design a home that can withstand earthquakes even in seismic zone 4 areas.
Just when we thought we had it all right, we started getting requests from Colorado and Utah for homes that could handle 90 mile per hour straight line winds, with 48,000 pounds of snow on a 1200 square foot roof. We did that, too. Then finally, our neighbors in Louisiana and Mississippi wanted to know if we could leave out all the plywood sheathing and wood interior studs. They wanted all steel so the termites wouldn't own the home before the mortgage was paid off. It's all done now. We've got it right, and best of all you can build our Heritage All Steel Home kit yourself faster, easier, and for less money than wood! We've got a lot of beautiful homes to choose from, and you are only limited by your imagination in designing your own floor plan.
From the first Heritage customers to the thousands who have followed, all have learned that it's not just the engineering that makes our homes better than others. It's the spirit of people involved. Our people make the difference!
